A Great New Find

We found ourselves at the most eastern edge of The Beach and were looking for somewhere new when we opted to try Bibiche Bistro. It was a cold Friday evening in February and this small restaurant (seats only 25) was very busy. The gentleman who greeted us said they would have a table in about half an hour and would be happy to take our cel number should we wish to return. We agreed and were promptly called about 25 minutes later.

The first thing that struck us was the friendly and informed service we received. The restaurant itself is cozy and warmly decorated.

We opted to share Mussels Mariniere, Pear and Walnut Salad and Duck Liver Pate for appetizers. The mussels were beautifully prepared in a white wine and cream sauce. The salad was refreshingly dressed with a lemon, honey and mustard dressing and the homemade pate was exquisite. For mains we had the Pistachio Chicken, Fresh Arctic Char, Boeuf Bourguignon and Magret Duck Breast. The crunchy chicken was enhanced by a great orange-tarragon sauce, while the Char was simply glazed with balsamic and white wine. Both were cooked beautifully. The Bourguignon was rich and filling as should be. The Duck Breast was cooked to the requested pink and the Brandy Wild Cherry Sauce was lovely. All the dishes were served with interesting spiced rice and a very original and wonderful braised red cabbage with asparagus and apples.

The homemade desserts included one the best Crème Brullee we have ever tasted and a wicked Warm Banana, Chocolate and Pecan Bread Pudding.

With 2 bottles of wine the bill came to a bit over $200 before gratuity – a steal for such a great and filling meal. We all agreed this is a new favourite and plan a return visit very soon. Highly recommended!
