expectation didn't match

What first attracted our attention were the spotless windows and the “home-style dinners” sign in those same windows. Reality and anticipation didn’t quite match.

The menu is very limited, the only “home-style dinner” item being meatloaf with mushroom gravy. I am extremely fussy; my husband will eat just about anything without complaint, even justified complaint. The two cooks wore filthy uniforms we wouldn’t be caught gardening in, never mind preparing food in a kitchen. I ordered a club sandwich with coleslaw; my husband ordered the highly anticipated meatloaf with mushroom gravy and french fries. There was something very “off” about pink coleslaw so I didn’t even try it. My husband reported it was quite good. The vinegar from the coleslaw soaked one piece of my sandwich bread so I had to eat that open faced. The sandwich itself I’d give nothing more than “satisfactory”. Even my husband was just about sick looking at his dry looking meatloaf smothered in a grey congealed substance which was supposed to be mushroom gravy. He said he’d eat the meatloaf again but definitely not the gravy. However, since we have no intention of returning, that won’t be an issue.

The George Street Diner - Discusting

Just went to the George Street Diner 20 minutes ago to get a California Club Sandwich. The place was dirty the food in the hot trays did not look appetizing however I was hungry and had a meeting to go to shortly so I took a chance.

My sandwich did not have any turkey, partially cooked bacon along with BLACK chunks of acacado wilted lettuce and old tomatoes.....I threw it out!

The salad that it came with looks okay, I took one bite and it was very warm...threw it out too!

What a waste of time & $9.00!

I love this place. Really the music is always good, and the coffee hot. The food hasn't blown me away but I keep going back because it is the best in the neighbourhood! The breakfast sandwich gets me through my morning!

I go regularly. Friendly staff, food made fresh daily, upbeat atmosphere. Busy on the weekends with breakfast and brunch, busy during the week at lunch. They now stay open for dinner Wed-Friday nights.

Highly recommended. Was there on Sunday. Not a huge breakfast menu but there was no wait, the atmosphere is very retro diner and the service was great.

The George Street diner at the corner of Richmond and George (east of Jarvis). Good breakfasts and seem to have other reasonable fare given that the place is pretty busy (at least on the weekend when I've been there).
