small and cozy (though not in a lodge sort of way), the food is very accessible (e.g., braised short ribs... which are excellent, btw), the service is great without being stuffy and the crowd is eclectic.

We actually have eaten at Rosebud and thoroughly enjoyed both the food and ambience. Now if they would only allow BYOW...they do have a great wine list that is reasonably priced

I might recommend the Rosebud on Queen just west of Bathurst - it has a similar intimate atmosphere and a menu that's not as ambitious as Amuse-Bouche but is executed in an exceedingly delicious manner. The staff are also very nice and professional - a rarity on Queen St.'s eateries.

Now that the hype has subsided I think this could be a great choice. Nice, intimate room with great food, wine list and service. It's quite hip, but not too much so.

The ribs are melt-in-your-mouth delicious, the hanger steak makes you want to cry. We're picky picky picky restraunt frequenters and this place is worth the hype.

we went to try out the restaurant last week and were really thrilled with the entire experience. The dining room is casual and buzzing, everyone was very welcoming and enthusiastic, and the food was delightful.

To make matters even better, I've long been hoping to try a wine from Cedar Creek (Okanagon B.C.). Lo and behold the 2001 Cedar Creek Platinum Reserve Meritage was on the list and it was fantastic. A perfect compliment to the food.

I'll definitely be back!

I think what everyone is commenting on, is the difference in the Rosebud lately...especially since one of the owners left (?). The Rosebud did get a lot of reviews for a new restaurant and all the reviewers were consistant on one fact: the service rocked! Jason's name was mentioned over and over again. He made the Rosebud different. The food is good, yes, and the prices are fine, as far as I'm concerned, but as a former regular, I have noticed the change and it is disappointing.

Food is good, surroundings are cosy and inimate but as a former regular, I'd have to say the service has suffered with changes in management. Spent New Years Eve there and three dinners prior to that as well, Jason was a huge part of the personable service. I too noticed the 20% rise in prices on the menu. It seemed to us that they are gouging review driven foodies at the expense of some regulars, (based on our cirlce of diners, and we eat out about three times a week), which is really too bad.

I have dined at the Rosebud three times now and I do have to say that the experience has declined in quality each time we went there.

The first time was about a month after they opened and you could see they were going through growing pains. This was more than made up for by the 'bend over backwards' personable service we got from one of the owners who was actually serving and bussing tables. He knew his wine list quite and recommended a very nice bottle. The food was delicious and well priced.

The second time was just as enjoyable some time in January, they had changed the menu somewhat, (they took off the amazing caesar salad), and we noticed that the price points on food had gone up about 10 to 20%, (I think that was a bit of price gouging myself), but the food was very good although we found the service was a bit scattered, probably because they found themselves so busy. We had to wait about 30 minutes past our reservation time so didn't actually get to sit down until about 9:30. The same owner did buy us a drink while we were waiting and the bartender/server, (an Asian chap), was extremely hospitable and funny. This same owner, (I think his name was Jamie did go out of his way to make the wait bearable but it was still a bit annoying considering we had made the reservation three weeks previous.

The last time we went was in late February, (I would definitely advise against going there on weekends), it seems the staff can't keep up to the volume of patrons, either that or they tend to overbook on weekends. Very poor policy. While we were waiting it appeared they had lost a reservation. Not good. Anyway, again the food was good but in terms of service, it definitely has taken a downturn. We noticed that the owner who served us before was not working and the busser/server/bartender, (I agree, it's hard to tell who was doing what there), just mumbled something about changes, whatever that means and it seems they don't have a regular bartender anymore adn so the servers are all making their own drinks which meant that two different people made my martinis and naturally neither of them tasted the same. Maybe it's just us but it seems a lot of the fun has left the room. We might come back later in the summer when some of the fuss has died down and I do agree, bang for buck, you're better off at the Niagara, Anton, (the owner), is an amazing host.

I had a wonderful time with my husband at this restaurant. The food was excellent from start to finish as was the wine choice. I will say, however, that this beautiful gem is beginning to attract a bit of an intolerably snooty element. But I suppose that comes with a glowing review in Toronto Life. (Somehow, I'm not surprised that the moody, navel-gazing 80s soundtrack--some variety, maybe?--pleases so many).

In a nutshell: Prepare for shining service and superb cuisine--just don't let overheard tipsy pinings for the days of McInerney, Easton Ellis and the Brat Pack ruin it all.

After reading all the reviews (Eye, Toronto Star and NOW) I was worried that my expectations would be too high. We went on a Tuesday night and everything was....perfect. The food was really good, and the service was the BEST IN THE CITY!! The Rosebud is our new favourite restaurant.
