I have dined at the Rosebud three times now and I do have to say that the experience has declined in quality each time we went there.
The first time was about a month after they opened and you could see they were going through growing pains. This was more than made up for by the 'bend over backwards' personable service we got from one of the owners who was actually serving and bussing tables. He knew his wine list quite and recommended a very nice bottle. The food was delicious and well priced.
The second time was just as enjoyable some time in January, they had changed the menu somewhat, (they took off the amazing caesar salad), and we noticed that the price points on food had gone up about 10 to 20%, (I think that was a bit of price gouging myself), but the food was very good although we found the service was a bit scattered, probably because they found themselves so busy. We had to wait about 30 minutes past our reservation time so didn't actually get to sit down until about 9:30. The same owner did buy us a drink while we were waiting and the bartender/server, (an Asian chap), was extremely hospitable and funny. This same owner, (I think his name was Jamie did go out of his way to make the wait bearable but it was still a bit annoying considering we had made the reservation three weeks previous.
The last time we went was in late February, (I would definitely advise against going there on weekends), it seems the staff can't keep up to the volume of patrons, either that or they tend to overbook on weekends. Very poor policy. While we were waiting it appeared they had lost a reservation. Not good. Anyway, again the food was good but in terms of service, it definitely has taken a downturn. We noticed that the owner who served us before was not working and the busser/server/bartender, (I agree, it's hard to tell who was doing what there), just mumbled something about changes, whatever that means and it seems they don't have a regular bartender anymore adn so the servers are all making their own drinks which meant that two different people made my martinis and naturally neither of them tasted the same. Maybe it's just us but it seems a lot of the fun has left the room. We might come back later in the summer when some of the fuss has died down and I do agree, bang for buck, you're better off at the Niagara, Anton, (the owner), is an amazing host.
