It was hard to tell if the restauratn was open on the night we dined, it was poorly lite with only a small sign. We entered a long narrow room dominated by a deli counter but were soon guided to the back to a more formal dining area.
The food was excelent and the service very good though the sever that night had to ask the chef to answer some of our questions.
The wine list had only 1 wine from outside of the Niagar region and if we had brought our own wine they would have served it for only a small fee.
We started with a Thai soup that was very tasty but not at all spicy. The arugula salad was nice sweet dried cherry tomatoes as a garnish.
For mains we had their steak frites that was excelent. Halibut was slightly overcooked but the accompaning cream sauce was beautifully balanced to the dish. My friends had Scallops, venison and a cornish hen served off the bone. Each dish was cooked to perfection and the ganish with the cornish hen had a smokey heat that warmed the soul.
Desserts consisted of a creme brulee and a chocolate cake Both were rich but not too sweet. a perfect end to a delightful meal.
We will definitly be going back when The Shaw Festival opens in the spring.
