Lime is a bit Lame

My wife and I ate at the Lime today beginning of June 2010 for lunch. Food: We had a coconut chicken rice and chicken pad thai with hot and sour soup. Let's start with the soup: Very thick almost Chinese style and way too much pepper. Otherwise rather bland. Not recommended. The chicken tasted pre-made and very likely previously frozen. Sort of rubbery texture. The curry sauce was very boring tasting, nothing for the eye and not made to order.

The Pad Thai had that dreaded out-of-the- can Ketchup sauce which you get at low-end take out Thai restaurants. Blended with 1 inch chunks of solid green onion trunks (stupid kitchen staff I guess) It was sitting next to a pile of flat lettuce leafs and the nuts were crumbled off to the side (?) why not cilantro, basil or lemongrass as deco? So the food was nothing amazing.

Service: At 40% capacity this place was no where near as busy to justify slow menus and slow table water, served me 5 mins before my wife (next table same story). No apology for late dish. Below average.

Ambience: Bright modern texture and clean cut atmosphere. Reminded me of an urban Sushi Restaurant. Not bad for a half hour session.

Value: Dishes are priced about average for the serving size (but not for the lacking quality).

Conclusion: If you crave average Thai food and like the location you're OK at least you're not going to die from it. However, it's nothing to get excited about and given lots of alternatives in the neighborhood probably not first choice. The service is borderline bad and the oblivious waitress had no idea what courtesy and politeness is all about.

redpath and eglinton, about 4 blocks from yonge.
Their Pad Thai is great, they make it with chicken as well as tofu which adds a great texture to the pad thai. The only thing i miss when eating The pad thai at lime, is coriander. You do notice it being not there, but otherwise it is excellent in my opinion.
On another note, if you go to Lime, You MUST get the chicken won ton soup. It is thoroughly amazing, and tastes like heaven.
