Returning here after several years away, I wondered if it would be as good as I remembered. No fears on that score. The cottage cheese omelets are better than in places that charge twice the money. Don't waste time on the french fries (which seem suspiciously like Mr McCain's)and the pizza for the kiddies: go for the real dairy food and you won't be disappointed. The smoked whitefish is pure pleasure. Prompt service (I think some of the waitresses have been here 20 yrs) and wonderful atmosphere. A great place for people-watching.

United Bakers is owned and operated by a Jewish family. It is a typical dairy restaurant (no meat) and has fantstic homemade soups, and bagels platters (a bagel and a scoop of cream cheese, tuna, chopped egg or smoked salmon) and also more traditional fare such as gefilte fish, etc. Try their cabbage borscht (only available on Fridays) or their pea soup (available every day).

Must disagree strongly. United Bakers, while usually crowded, does nothing well. They do not do deli. They are a "dairy restaurant". They are not "consistently good". Better lasagna and salad dressings can be had from the frozen food section and bottle, respectively. You got it all wrong.
