We enjoy it. It is a small family-run bistro in the true sense, meaning just good home-style cooking. And since it is in an actual old house, it truly feels like you are in someone's home. I had called to make reservations, and when we arrived we were nicely greeted, they offered to take our coats and umbrella and then escorted us into the "parlour" where we were seated right in front of a fireplace with a nice warm fire.
I had the soup of the day, a cauliflower puree, sans cream, and my husband had the mussels in a tomato base sauce. Both homey good. For the main course I had the Veal Marsala and hubby had the fish special - rainbow trout. We had a choice of pasta as a side dish or veggies (a squash and carrot puree along with steamed some brussel spouts and a mixed rice dish - the squash was fantastic). I found the Veal Marsala a little too sweet, but still enjoyed it. My husband thought the trout was quite good. The desserts were also tasty. I had a triple chocolate mouse that was rich but light, and my husband had a raspberry white chocolate tart which had a shortbread-like crust.
This is not a fancy restaurant, but solid good family cooking in a pretty little setting and at very reasonable price - a glass of wine each, appetizers, mains & dessert with coffee worked out to about $82 after tax. The service was quite good and the owner came through the room and chatted with the customers. At the end of the evening we were wished a good night.
We were definitely return to Chez Laurent.
