it's always been a 'backup' in the area when I was just looking for a place to get some decent food around the area but I keep coming back to it.

Today I had the Beef vindaloo special with was a udon stir-fry with slices of beef in a spicy kind of sauce. It had cashews, cauliflower and was excellent sauce, had some great potent flavor and I liked the balanced mix of veggies and beef.

My friend had the pad-thai which she said she enjoyed.

The surprise though was the sweet potato fries I ordered just to quell our hunger as we waited for the mains. They were very fresh and thickly cut, very cleanly fried, and had just a slight crisp and wonderfully soft centre - they were wonderful and not at all like some other places that serve stringy oily twigs. It came with a flavored mayo of some sort and a decent basket cost 4.95.

So if you're looking for a comfortable place with great food around Queen and Spadina definitely check out the Rivoli - it's just been around so long that I never really consider it for dinner. And always look at the specials - I had the rib special last time and thought they were great. The beef vindaloo I wouldn't have ordered off the normal menu but I was glad I tried it! One would expect slow or negligible service but considering the full dining room the food came in good time and water and drinks came as asked.
