Well all I can say is Joanne if your daughter is a cake decorator then she obviously does not understand her craft very well if at all. My wife and I have been patrons of Half-Baked since the first day they opened. WE WOULD NOT ALLOW ANY OTHER BAKERY CATER TO ANY OF OUR SOCIAL FUNCTIONS!!!! This is the most amazing experience you will ever encounter. The food is amazing, the artistic design of the cakes are phenomenal, the taste of the cakes is unbelievable and the service is umatched in the City of Toronto. Glenn truly understands the client and will accept nothing short of perfection! The vanilla bean scones are the best, the butter tarts will bring tears to your eyes, the cookies are to die for, and the catering of hor d'orves rival any and all caterers in the City. Half Baked Ideas is truly an exceptional experience. Well done Glenn. We are so thrilled to have you as our official caterer and baker extraodinaire.

I cannot speak to the experience of the previous commentator, but I can certainly talk about my own experiences as a regular customer of Half-Baked Ideas.
I discovered this bakery cafe soon after it opened late last year. I was very pleased to find a location that provded high quality baked goods, without nuts. While I am not allergic to nuts, I am not a fan of them in baked goods.

I have ordered cakes, cookies, brownies and other deserts from this store and I have always been very satisfied with the quality. They use best quality ingredients: all butter icings, not like massed production bakeries in grocery stores, best quality Callibaut chocolate( I am a connoisseur), shortbread cookies that melt in your mouth and the list goes on.

I had a birthday cake from Half-Baked Ideas very recently that was absolutely the best. The choclate cake was rich and very moist and butter cream icing was wonderful. The cake was decorated with a fondant replica of my tattoo, which is the masks of Tragedy and Comedy. This is certainly not a skiil that a pastry chef can provide unless they have many years of experience.

I will continue to give my custom to this store and I have many friends who already share my thoughts on this and have become repeat customers as well.

I ordered a cake for my daughters baby shower which was held on July 12,2009 and was not a home party, but an upscale hall. I picked up the cake 1 hour before the shower. OH MY GOD, I could not beleive the size and the colours were not the exact that I wanted. He is an executive pastry chef? I questioned the buttercream icing at pick up since it was all blochy, he stated it was because it was in and out of the fridge. Well I had no choice to take it and pay the remainder after my initial deposit. It was an embarrasment to me, since I wanted the cake to be special. The baby blocks in front of the two tier cake, were old cake covered in icing, one block you could see cake through it and the trim was not finished all around. It seemed he tried to fix the icing after it formed water droplets by spraying it with the color and trying to smooth it out. Their website shows custom cakes and states any type of cake can be done. I do not know how he can let a cake go out from his establishment looking like that. The bottom color I wanted on the darker side of lilac, but I got black purple, the second tier I wanted a lighter shade of lilac and got pink. The butterflies were fine. I returned the not even half cut cake. The rest was left over on the plates of my guests and discarded. The icing had an aftertaste of lard. Did I mention he charged me $300.00 for this cake and that my daughter is a cake decorator, so I do know what I am talking about and since I was local I wanted to give him the business. If you read this Glenn, you took no care and put no care into your final product. I did get half my deposit back, but really I should have received 95% of it. IF YOU HAVE A REALLY SPECIAL OCCASION, PLEASE DO NOT ORDER YOUR CAKE FROM HERE.
