My wife and I had brunch this morning in this restaurant. Our experience was extremely poor. Despite the restaurant being half empty, we had to wait almost half an hour for our plats principaux to arrive. After a 15 minute wait when we asked the server if the food was coming soon, she did not apologize, she just said "everyone is waiting, the kitchen is very slow today". While we were waiting we reflected that perhaps the way they treat their clientiele is modelled on the stereotypical "service Parisien".
We had ordered oeufs belle-hélène and oeufs florentine. When the food did finally arrive the muffins for the belle-hélène were burned and the frites for the florentine were cold.
When the server asked us "is everything OK", I told her that we were not happy and that the food was burned and cold. She did not apologize, did not make any offer of replacement dishes or even money off the bill, and did not offer to bring the manager over to explain or apologize. There is no point in having the servers ask the question if they are not prepared to respond if there is a problem - that is catering 101.
As someone who lived in Montréal for 10 years, and who visits France regularly, I have to say that for a supposedly French themed restaurant the baguettes/rolls served at the restaurant are completely unauthentic and the coffee is very ordinary. Both tasted like they could have run out of the real thing and ordered them in from the local Tim Horton's.
We paid almost $50 for the meal. For what we received in food and service we could indeed have eaten better at Tim Horton's for a fraction of the price. We will not be patronizing this restaurant again.
