In the same block as Chiado, but further west is Cataplana. It's owned by a former maitre d' of Chiado. The food is good as is the service, although not quite up to the very high standards of Chiado. I'd certainly return (although it's been a while since I've been).

Nice ambiance, good service well attuned to the situation and great food. Four of us had three different main courses and all were delicious and nicely presented. The beef and lamb are equally as good as the renowned sea food. The price is reasonable for the quality and the wine list is extensive.

I'm sorry to say that i had the unfortunate experience of taking my date to cataplana. Not only was service terrible but the food was plane and boring. My lamb was grossly over cooked and as for there signature dish of cataplana it was all overcooked. I did not look good on Valentines. I'm very disapointed and should probably have stuck to the favorites in Portuguese such as chiado and sintra.

We had decided to try a new restaurant in the city. The food was fantastic (we ordered whole snapper and rack of lamb). The portions were generous and delicious. The servers were outstanding, true professionals with a warmth that you would expect from the Portuguese. Cataplana is a restaurant with a lot of class and well worth a visit.

They serve the best fresh fish I have ever tasted. I don't understand or agree with the rating on this site. The only difference between them and the overrated Chiado Restaurant are the more reasonable prices.
