I have been to Pure Spirits once a few weeks ago and another time a year ago and both times were meridocure bordering on disgust.

The food was fantastic. The clams and oysters were fresh and well prepared. Unfortunately, the level of service is truly lacking. It took over four hours for us to complete our dinner. The service was extremely slow and the length of time taken to prepare each course was unacceptable. When we raised our concerns to management, they were not apologetic nor empathetic. The service was very disappointing.

I brought my parents to this restaurant last night because I had heard good things about it. It was my fathers first time dining out in Toronto (they are not from here). The whole experience was less than average. It started with our waiter being quite cold. More like, I am Here to serve the likes of you as apposed to I am here to help you have a great evening. His service was just that, Service. He barely spoke to us. My parents ordered the soup, which was cold . He made no apologies, took the soup and when he brought it back, just placed it on the table. He was as cold as the soup. After our main courses, which were mediocre at best (tepid chicken with a chary flavour on the skin), the waiter was just sat a table of what looked like 20 people. He came by and without a word, dropped dessert menus off. All we wanted were 3 cappucino's and our bill. We had to wait another 20 minutes for him to return (he was very smiley and polite to his large table) and I just asked for the bill. I spent $160 of very hard earned cash for an evening that was uncomfortable and mediocre at best.

Based upon my second lunch there (last one last fall) I found the food very good, different and well prepared. The cured salmon baguette was tasty served with a nice salad. The tomato soup was good as well. The tuna carpaccio was good just somewhat small. The service was prompt and attentive the only problem was the explanation of the Mill St beer (type/taste was not very good). The location is great given the patio and the Distillery setting.
