The food is not the greatest, but it is fine for when you crave some down and dirty tex mex type food, plus the atmos is fun.

Great natchos of many varieties and, oh look at that, hockey season is coming. Did I mention you can watch games there? Oh and I love their margaritas. Sure it's a chain now, but there were exactly two locations when I first started going.

Hernandos Hideaway has two locations, one of Yonge and Wellseley, and one on Wellington near church and front ( I have only been to this location). The menu is huuuuge and fairly cheap, and the food was pretty good. I dont really know what makes mexican food extraordinary. But it tasted pretty good to me.

a Cali-Mexican place on Wellington just west of Church. Again it's not particularly "authentic" but the food is consistently tasty and the service is always friendly. The space has a fun vibe, and there are some nice tables by the windows that open and look down on to the street, if you're lucky enough to get one of those.

Having recently moved from the Southern US we were anxious to find a good Mexican Restaurant in Toronto. I'm afraid we're still searching. My favourite is Chile Relleno, but I quickly found they and several other menu items were unavailable. We settled for some Nachos and Guacamole. The Salsa and Guacamole were brought out cold - almost frozen and tasteless. Obviously prepared well in advance and stored in a very cold frig. Probably very hygienic but not very appetizing. The Guacamole also had a very large onion component which I found unusual. Hernando's won't be our hideaway anytime soon.

I have been coming here for 20 years and have seen a gradual decline in all areas. I remember when you could barely eat all your meal. Now the enchilada's are so skinny they are dried out and tasteless. The cheese on the nachos is wet and does not melt very well. A big disapointment.

I'm a little shocked to read the bad reviews for this place - I've been coming to Hernando's for several years, and love the relaxed, laid back attitude - much like a trip south of the border! The burritos are your best bet, and I appreciate all the vegetarian options. I just wish they hadn't changed the artichoke dip recipe - it used to be so yummy, and just isn't the same anymore.

Went for lunch today and was terribly disappointed to find I had a hair in my food.I told the waiter about it and he took it away and brought me a new dish and said the next one is on the house. At the end of the meal we received the bill and noticed that I was charged for my meal, when I made mention to the waiter about what he had previously said about the next one is on the house he stated that he meant it as a joke refering to the next hair was on the house..ha ha! I did not find it funny at all. No compensation, terrible customer service.

I just moved to Toronto from California, and while the food at Hernando's is ok, California-style it is not! I had the chicken tacos and was very underwhelmed. The tortillas were soggy and barely heated, and the filling was bland and unimaginative. I had wanted to get a burrito, but I saw that they were covered in cheese and sauce. Why?!? A burrito is meant to be picked up with both hands and crammed into your mouth, not eaten with a knife and fork. Enchiladas are for sauce, burritos are not! (and you can verify this in ANY taqueria in California). The interior was nice and cozy, though :-)

After reading the posting stating "TIRED" I ventured the 2 blocks south of my office to see if the quality had dropped. NO it had not. The staff was still friendly and efficient. The food still great in both quantity and quality and the drinks were great. I have since just ordered take-out for me and my staff and it was a superb change from the ordinary. Maybe the other poster was having a bad day, but my experience was great !
