I ordered eggs benedict and I asked the waiter if I could get the
eggs done medium because I hate runny eggs, but benedict
most often comes runny as the default. He said there was no
problem, but when he brought them, they were very runny; the
white was not completely congealed and as the yolk all runs
onto the plate, much of the flavour is lost. I tried to get the
waiter's attention, but he didn't look in my direction and he
never came over to ask if everything was alright. By the time I
flagged him down we had finished and wanted the bill. I had not
finished the first egg or touched the second one. I asked him to
take the plate away. He came back with the manager who said
that I would be charged for the eggs because that's the way they
came and I could either get them again or pay the full price, but
regardless, I was going to pay for the eggs. I told the manager
that I had asked for medium and that I couldn't get the waiter to
come over, but he said, "regardless, you're paying for the bill." I
told him I thought it was unconscionably rude and he just said,
"okay, goodbye."

I was at the Hope Cafe, Lonsdale and Spadina, on Sunday and had a wonderful brunch - loads to choose from. Omelettes are very large. Very busy though.

Hope St. has saved the village!! We've been a handful of times now, and can honestly say this is one of the most well-rounded places in the city. The quality of food is high, but not pretentious. Not nouveau wave cuisine here--it's traditional fare done really well with a couple twists. Casual with a splash of class. Whether you're simply in the mood for a grilled cheese sandwich (fresh challah makes all the difference), an all-day avocado benny, or perhaps the ribs (which are the best I've had this side of Calgary or St. Louis), the food is memorable, with a fun, yell-your-compliments-to-the-chef-across-the-room type ambiance. The patio is ideal for enjoying a beer with your meal on a nice spring evening, and they're open late, which is a rarity for Forest Hill. Fun for couples, mid-sized parties, and families at any time of day. Definitely worth checking out.
