I'm moving next week, and I can't tell you how sad I'm going to be to lose Osogood. What an amazing little place.

As I type this I am eating a goat cheese, grilled vegetable, olive oil, and herb sandwich. It is amazing. She made it while I waited. Yesterday I had a garden vegetable and pesto sandwich and I watched as she actually sliced and grated the veggies she needed.

Everything is incredibly fresh and delicious. The owner kind and always glad to chat, if a little soft-spoken.

This place is a gem. Make sure you check it out.

Osogood opened a couple of years ago by a lady who’s dream it was to have her own store. She sells some of the most delicious cookies you’ll ever taste. Varieties include cranberry granola concoctions (more wholesome than experimental tasting), along with traditional gingerbread, shortbread, and chocolate chip. They are all sold large or small ‘lollipop’ size (half the regular, and with a pop stick baked inside).

The smaller ones are for kids she tells me, “they can’t have too much sugar.” I go there to enjoy her food, and also her gentle presence.

The store is west of Ossington on College, in the terrain of Toronto that is yet to be completely yuppified (excluding the corner Starbucks that just opened at Dovercourt).

As are other unique urban gems, there is only one ‘Osogood’. The shop is tiny. It encompasses only her kitchen, the display case, a couple of containers of sweets and seating for two.
You should go in there. Stop in and have a smell. Don’t forget to try a cookie, she’s made them for you.

I almost don't want to tell folks about this place. I'm afraid that I'll overwhelm Suchada Promsiri - the incredibly sweet, soft-spoken woman behind Osogood. She's all on her own... and does EVERYTHING from scratch. From sandwiches to sweet down to the handmade sign at the window.

She makes cheesecake, croissants, biscottis, espresso nanaimo bars, rocky road fudge... keylime tarts with blueberry sauce, cookies... she makes it all in the tiny shop in a regular oven. It's like going over to a friend's kitchen.

I had one of her white chocolate cranberry coconut bars, which has no added sugar.

Muffins are usually hockey pucks filled with oil, but she makes granola banana muffins with banana chips on them - muffins you can feel good about.

Besides sweets she makes sandwiches - her homemade meatloaf sandwich is a good one to try.

The prices are unbelievable. Sandwiches go for around $6, there are lots of fabulous take-away pastries for around $3 and many more around the dollar mark.

But if you go be patient. She is all on her own and the sandwiches are made to order.
