what can you say other than when something ain't broke, don't fix it! this spot hasn't changed much over the last few decades and why should it? still churning out some of the finest pizza in the city for more than a few decades... still cheap and always delicious. stop by and grab a signature panzerotto heaping with loads of cheese and sauce or go for the timeless classic - a massive pepperoni slice for only $2.75 - sweet.

If you want a somewhat less-guilty pleasure - try a calzone. They are the same as the panzerotti but baked rather than fried.

They used to have this magical manicotti - but some time last year they took it off the menu :(

The slices are great - good for folding over - something I was recently introduced to. A whole new pizza eating experience.

Their whole pies are very, very good as well - no gourmet toppings - but good quality basics for sure! It's just a shame they don't deliver!

And I whole heartedly agree - skip the sandwiches. California is always my first choice (I prefer the chicken - so full of yummy, crispy, tender & juicy chicken breast it is usually the size of my head), and San Francesco is a distant second (tasty, but not as big as California's).

Stay away from the sandwiches(California's is a mere 1 minute drive South) and concentrate on the already mentioned ponzos and slices. Both incredibly fresh and about as basic traditional as you can get.

Totally agree about the ponzo at Bitondo's but I like to chase it down with a slice. If I'm going to be guilty-why not go al the way!!

Bitondo's panzerotti. The fresher the better.

When it's just a bit crisp on the outside it's reached Nirvana.

I usually feel so guilty after eating the whole cheesey, gooey, deep-fried thing - but there is nothing that could ever stop me once the craving hits!

Every bite is different - one bite saucy, one bite, cheesey, one bite doughy/crusty - but equally tasty.

The worst part of having experienced it in it's prime is that when it's been sitting just a bit too long, or the fry oil was just a tad chilly, it's a huge disappointment! But inferior Bitondo's panzerotti is better than no Bitondo's panzerotti (imho)- and more often than not it will be as it should...
