Kumquats

Kumquats, or somchíd (ส้มจี๊ด) in Thai, are a citrus fruit. They look like small oval oranges and are frequently eaten raw. The rind is sweet and the juicy center is sour, so the raw fruit is usually consumed either whole, to savour the contrast. The kumquats in this photo are beautifully ripe. They were photographed with a fine white netting draped over to prevent Medflay infestation in Southern California.
