A freshly thawed Durian ready to be opened and eaten. Only frozen Durian are available in Minnesota, as they originate from Southeast Asia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.
They are often called "stinky fruit" because they can sometimes remind you of old sweaty gym socks stuffed with onions. The flavor is much better but still difficult to describe - it is something like a banana crossed with an onion, but not really. The edible fruit inside is custard-like and excellent in smoothies with berries such as strawberries, blueberries or raspberries.
Durian contains high levels of the amino acid tryptophan, known to alleviate anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and create feelings of euphoria, by raising levels of serotonin in the brain.
Durian is a good muscle builder. Contains high levels of soft proteins.
Durian has the most complete nutritional profile of any fruit
