mom's cherry pie

To celebrate my brother's birthday, I made my mom's cherry pie.

Filling:
-2 cans cherries, liquid drained and poured away
-1 cup sugar
-3 tbs flour or cornstarch
-1/2 tsp almond extract

stir and set aside

line the pie pan with the crust of your choosing (of course, my family would say that you should choose "homemade butter"). dump the cherry filling in. and, now this is the really important part, make a lattice top. if it is not a lattice top, no matter the filling, you've made an apple pie. and that would be a big mistake, especially if you've taken the trouble to prepare the cherries.
